Sorry, but I really don’t think you can say you’re engaged if you’re not actually planning on getting married. People can run their relationships how they want to and define it how they want to, but they can’t change the meaning of the English language just because they feel like it. Engaged means planning to get married with some immediacy. You can have a ring and a proposal, but if you don’t have a single plan after a couple of years, I don’t think you’re engaged. Also if you have a date set but aren’t calling yourselves engaged, you probably actually are engaged without realizing it.
